What ancient Chinese fighting style does Wang Jinrei use?

The story behind the answer

Wang Jinrei uses Xingyi Quan, also written Xingyiquan, an internal Chinese martial art known for direct attacks and explosive power. In Tekken, the style gives Wang a distinctive identity among the series’ many martial-arts characters.

Xingyiquan is commonly translated as “Form-Intention Fist” or “Shape-Will Fist.” Its movements tend to be compact, linear and forceful, with practitioners aiming to close distance quickly and overwhelm an opponent through coordinated bursts of power. Training includes bare-handed techniques as well as weapon-based mechanics associated especially with spear and staff work.

The art’s historical origin is disputed. Tradition credits the legendary Song dynasty general Yue Fei, but the earliest reliable written records date from the eighteenth century. Modern Xingyiquan developed through several regional lineages, including traditions associated with Shanxi and Henan.

Wang’s style is sometimes confused with Bajiquan, another Chinese martial art represented in Tekken. Bajiquan is associated with explosive close-range strikes and is used by other characters, but it is not Wang Jinrei’s primary fighting style. Xingyi’s linear, intent-driven movements are the key clue.
