What actress played Sun-Hwa Kwon in Lost?

Yunjin Kim played Sun-Hwa Kwon in Lost.

Sun, usually called simply Sun, is a South Korean survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and the daughter of a wealthy, powerful Korean businessman. Her marriage to Jin-Soo Kwon is one of the series’ central relationships, and the couple’s evolving story is told through flashbacks and island events.

Kim was not originally auditioning for Sun. She tried out for Kate, but the producers were impressed by her fluency in Korean and her previous film work. They created Sun specifically for her. A major early twist is that Sun initially appears unable to speak English, while later episodes reveal that she actually can—a detail that complicates her relationship with Jin.

A common mix-up is confusing Yunjin Kim with Daniel Dae Kim, who played Jin. Yunjin Kim also appeared in the Lost video game Lost: Via Domus, again providing Sun’s voice.
