What actor played Boone Carlyle in Lost?

Ian Somerhalder played Boone Carlyle in Lost.

Boone is introduced as a privileged but capable survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and the stepbrother of Shannon Rutherford. Before the crash, he worked as chief operating officer of his mother’s wedding company. On the island, he tries to become useful to the group and becomes a protégé of the mysterious John Locke.

Boone’s death near the end of the first season was a major turning point: he was the first major character to die. His injuries result from an expedition involving Locke and a small aircraft, and Jack’s efforts cannot save him. The loss intensifies the conflict between Jack and Locke and establishes that the show’s central characters were not guaranteed safety.

Somerhalder returned in later episodes through flashbacks, visions and the series finale. Viewers sometimes confuse Boone with Damon Salvatore, the vampire character Somerhalder played in The Vampire Diaries, which began in 2009.
