What 1994 film stars Brandon Lee as a musician resurrected to avenge his girlfriend’s murder? The answer is The Crow.
Directed by Alex Proyas, The Crow adapts James O’Barr’s comic-book series into a gothic supernatural revenge story. Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven, a rock musician murdered alongside his fiancée, Shelly Webster. One year later, a mystical crow returns Eric from the dead so he can confront the gang responsible for their deaths.
The film became inseparable from the tragedy surrounding its production: Lee was fatally wounded by a prop gun during filming and died before the movie was completed. Remaining scenes were finished through rewrites, a stunt double, and visual effects. The film was released in May 1994 and became a cult favorite for its noir-influenced style, heavy music, and Lee’s final performance.
The Crow: City of Angels is a sequel, not the film described here. Blade and The Dark Knight also feature supernatural or comic-book elements, but neither stars Brandon Lee as Eric Draven.
