The 1982 Ridley Scott film about a detective hunting rogue androids in a dystopian future is Blade Runner.
Adapted loosely from Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the film follows Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford. In the movie’s terminology, the artificial humans are called replicants, and Deckard is assigned to track down four escaped Nexus-6 models in Los Angeles in 2019.
Blade Runner is celebrated for its rain-soaked neon city, philosophical questions about memory and identity, and production design influenced by film noir and modernist science fiction. Rutger Hauer’s replicant Roy Batty is one of the film’s defining characters.
Alien is also a Ridley Scott film, but it was released in 1979 and is set primarily aboard a spacecraft. Blade Runner 2049 is the 2017 sequel, not the original film described here.
