What 1929 trip began Georgia O'Keeffe's long artistic relationship with New Mexico?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's first trip to New Mexico in 1929 began her long artistic relationship with the region. She traveled there with her friend Rebecca Strand, wife of photographer Paul Strand, and was deeply affected by the landscape, architecture, and intense light.

O'Keeffe returned repeatedly during the 1930s and later made New Mexico her permanent home. The state's cliffs, deserts, adobe buildings, animal bones, and religious objects became central subjects in her paintings. She often worked from places around Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch.

The 1929 trip was not the same as her permanent move. O'Keeffe continued living and working in New York for years, spending summers in New Mexico before eventually settling there. Her New Mexico paintings are now among the works most strongly associated with her name.
