Tumblr's 2022 livestreaming service was called what?

Tumblr’s 2022 livestreaming service was called Tumblr Live.

Tumblr Live was introduced as a livestreaming feature near the end of 2022. It allowed users to broadcast live video and interact with viewers, extending Tumblr beyond its traditional model of short-form posts, reblogs, images, GIFs, and text-based conversation.

The service was not the same thing as Tumblr TV, Tumblr Now, or Tumblr Stream. Those names may sound plausible because Tumblr has long experimented with media and discovery features, but Tumblr Live was the actual branded livestreaming product. The service was based on Livebox, a product associated with The Meet Group, rather than being an entirely unrelated video platform built from scratch.

Tumblr Live did not remain a permanent part of the service. Tumblr later announced that it would discontinue the feature on January 24, 2024, with users offered migration options involving MeetMe. That later shutdown is useful context, but the historical identification remains clear: the livestreaming service launched in 2022 was Tumblr Live.
