The album was produced by Andy Sneap and continues Saxon's long association with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the late-1970s and early-1980s movement that also included Iron Maiden and Diamond Head. Its songs include the title track, “Thunderbolt,” and “They Played Rock and Roll,” a tribute to Motörhead and the band's late frontman Lemmy.

A common mix-up is the album's release date: although it belongs to the 2010s, it was not released in 2010 or 2017.
