The video game Assassin’s Creed Unity is set primarily in Paris during the French Revolution. The main story follows Arno Dorian, who becomes involved with the Assassin Brotherhood while investigating the murder of his adoptive father and uncovering a Templar conspiracy.
The central Paris setting spans the revolutionary period from 1789 to 1794, including events such as the storming of the Bastille, the execution of Louis XVI, and the Reign of Terror. The game recreates famous locations including Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Tuileries Palace, the Louvre area, and the Île de la Cité.
Paris is not the game’s only location. Arno’s childhood begins in Versailles, and the main game includes Versailles as a separate area. The downloadable expansion Dead Kings takes place largely in Saint-Denis after the main story. The game uses fictional characters and supernatural elements alongside real historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Maximilien Robespierre, so it dramatizes history rather than serving as a literal historical record.
