The pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk is headquartered in Denmark.
Novo Nordisk’s corporate headquarters are in Bagsværd, a suburb of Copenhagen. The company is one of Denmark’s best-known global businesses and has historically specialized in diabetes care, including insulin and other treatments. Its portfolio also includes medicines for obesity, hormone replacement, and related conditions.
The modern company was formed in 1989 through the merger of Novo Industri and Nordisk Gentofte. Both predecessor companies had Danish roots and had developed important expertise in insulin production. Novo Nordisk expanded internationally while retaining its Danish base and substantial research, manufacturing, and corporate operations in the country.
The company became especially prominent in global markets through its GLP-1 medicines, including semaglutide products used for diabetes and obesity treatment. Because its share price and outstanding shares have made it a major listed company, Novo Nordisk has often appeared in rankings of the world’s largest companies by market capitalization. Denmark is the country answer; Copenhagen is the nearby city commonly used as a geographic reference.
