The Open Championship is held annually in which country?
Answer
United Kingdom
Answer
United Kingdom
The Open Championship is held annually in the United Kingdom. It is golf’s oldest major championship, first played at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland in 1860 and now organised by The R&A.
The tournament rotates among historic coastal links courses in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Although “United Kingdom” is the country-level answer, the event has never been hosted in Wales. This is why “England” or “Scotland” is too narrow: both are frequent host nations, but neither covers the entire championship rota.
The Open is usually played in July and is the final men’s major championship of the season. Its winner receives the Claret Jug and is officially titled the Champion Golfer of the Year. The event was cancelled during both World Wars and in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
