The Odyssey (2026) was Christopher Nolan's follow-up to which 2023 film?

The story behind the answer

The Odyssey (2026) was Christopher Nolan's follow-up to Oppenheimer, his 2023 historical drama about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb.

Oppenheimer was Nolan's first film after ending his long distribution relationship with Warner Bros. Universal Pictures distributed the film, and it became a major critical and commercial success. At the 96th Academy Awards, it won Best Picture, while Nolan received his first Oscar for Best Director.

The connection between the two films goes beyond the director. Several key collaborators from Oppenheimer returned for The Odyssey, including producer Emma Thomas, cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, and composer Ludwig Göransson. Matt Damon also appeared in Oppenheimer before taking the lead role of Odysseus.

The other choices are earlier Nolan films: Interstellar premiered in 2014, Dunkirk in 2017, and Tenet in 2020. Oppenheimer is the immediate predecessor.
