On which US chart did Metallica's The Black Album reach number one?

Metallica's The Black Album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. The chart position reflected the album's exceptional popularity in the United States after its 1991 release.

The Billboard 200 ranks albums and extended plays using consumption data, including sales and, in later eras, other forms of listening activity. It is different from the Billboard Hot 100, which ranks individual songs. That distinction matters because “Enter Sandman” reached number 16 on the Hot 100, while the album itself topped the Billboard 200.

The Black Album's chart success continued long after its initial release. Its accessible production, major singles, and strong album tracks gave it unusually durable sales and chart presence. It became one of the defining crossover successes in heavy metal, bringing Metallica to listeners who might not previously have followed thrash metal.
