On which stock exchange did Alibaba Group make its 2014 initial public offering?

The story behind the answer

Alibaba Group made its 2014 initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange.

Alibaba began trading under the ticker symbol BABA on September 19, 2014. The company priced its shares at $68 each, and the offering raised about $21.8 billion, making it the largest IPO in history at that time.

The listing placed a Chinese internet and e-commerce group on a major United States exchange. Strong investor demand led underwriters to exercise an overallotment option, increasing the final proceeds to roughly $25 billion.

Alibaba later pursued a secondary listing in Hong Kong in 2019. That later listing does not change the venue of its original public offering, which was the New York Stock Exchange.
