Amazon introduced the Dash Button for reordering household products in 2015.
The Amazon Dash Button was a small, branded Wi-Fi device linked to a specific product. Pressing it sent an order request through a paired Amazon account, allowing customers to replenish items such as detergent, diapers, or coffee without opening a website or app.
Amazon announced the Dash Button in March 2015. The devices were part of the company’s broader effort to connect ordinary household objects to online ordering. They used a smartphone setup process and were designed around repeat purchases rather than browsing.
The Dash Button was discontinued in 2019 because Amazon said virtual ordering options had become more convenient. The program is often confused with Amazon Dash Replenishment, a software service that lets connected devices automatically reorder supplies when they run low.
