On which sea did Jesus calm a storm, according to the Synoptic Gospels?

The story behind the answer

Jesus calmed a storm on the Sea of Galilee, according to the Synoptic Gospels.

Matthew 8, Mark 4, and Luke 8 describe Jesus and his disciples crossing the lake when a powerful storm arose. Jesus was asleep in the boat, and the frightened disciples woke him. He rebuked the wind and the waves, and the water became calm.

The Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake in northern Israel, also known historically as the Sea of Tiberias and Lake Gennesaret. It lies in a deep basin and can experience sudden winds, making the storm setting geographically plausible.

The episode is often called the calming of the storm. It is not the same event as Jesus walking on the water, although that later Gospel story also takes place on the Sea of Galilee. The Gospel accounts use the miracle to emphasize Jesus’ authority over threatening natural forces and to challenge the disciples’ fear.
