According to the Gospel of Mark, the synagogue leader whose daughter Jesus raised was Jairus.
Mark says Jairus approached Jesus and pleaded for help because his young daughter was dying. Before Jesus reached the house, messengers reported that the girl had died. Jesus told Jairus not to fear, entered the room with a small group of disciples and the girl’s parents, and commanded her to rise. Mark records the Aramaic words “Talitha koum.”
The episode is also found in Matthew and Luke, though their details and wording differ. The story is often discussed alongside the healing of the woman who touched Jesus’ clothing, because Mark places the two events together as an interwoven narrative.
