On which day was Brighton versus Aston Villa played in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend?

Brighton versus Aston Villa was played on Sunday 23 August 2026 in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.

Brighton hosted Aston Villa at Falmer Stadium, and the match finished 4–0 to the home side. It was one of two fixtures scheduled for 14:00 BST on Sunday, alongside Manchester City versus Bournemouth.

The match was placed on Sunday because Brighton were due to play in UEFA Conference League qualifying play-offs on the preceding Thursday. European commitments can affect domestic scheduling, particularly when clubs need extra recovery time or when broadcast slots must be adjusted.

The fixture was not the final match of the opening round. Fulham versus Chelsea took place on Monday 24 August and completed the first Match Round.
