On which continent do emperor penguins breed?

The story behind the answer

Emperor penguins breed on the continent of Antarctica.

Their breeding colonies are found on stable sea ice around the Antarctic coast. Unlike many penguins that nest during warmer seasons, emperor penguins begin their breeding cycle during the Antarctic winter, when temperatures and winds can be extreme.

The species is specially adapted to this environment. Dense feathers, a thick layer of body fat, and tightly packed groups help emperors conserve heat. Males incubate the single egg on their feet while protecting it with a fold of skin called a brood pouch.

Emperor penguins do not build conventional nests. Their eggs and chicks are kept above the ice, and the colony may move gradually as sea ice conditions change. They are native to Antarctica and are not naturally found on other continents.
