The United States Semiquincentennial, also called America250, will be observed on July 4, 2026.
The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. July 4 became the anniversary date because the Declaration was proclaimed on that day, even though the Lee Resolution approving independence passed on July 2.
America250 celebrations include events held before and after the anniversary itself. The national commemoration is therefore broader than a single ceremony on July 4, but that date remains the central milestone.
A common mix-up is confusing the semiquincentennial with the U.S. Bicentennial. The Bicentennial took place in 1976, exactly 200 years after independence; the semiquincentennial takes place 50 years later than that celebration and marks 250 years.
