The United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026.
The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The anniversary is commonly called the United States Semiquincentennial and is promoted through the America250 initiative.
July 4 is the annual date associated with American Independence Day, although the Declaration was formally debated and adopted on July 4, 1776. The semiquincentennial therefore follows the same calendar date as the nation’s earlier bicentennial celebration in 1976.
America250 is designed as a nationwide commemoration rather than a single ceremony. Events, educational programs, exhibitions, and community projects are scheduled around the 2026 anniversary. The next major centennial-style milestone will be the United States Tricentennial in 2076.
