On what date will America's 250th anniversary, America250, be observed?

America's 250th anniversary, America250, will be observed on July 4, 2026.

The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The anniversary is also called the United States Semiquincentennial, a term referring to a 250-year milestone.

July 4 is the United States Independence Day because Congress approved the Declaration on that date. The earlier Lee Resolution, which declared independence from Great Britain, passed on July 2, 1776, so July 2 is sometimes mentioned as the legal independence vote. However, the national anniversary is fixed to July 4.

America250 is the name commonly associated with the nationwide commemoration. It follows earlier major anniversaries, including the 1876 Centennial, the 1926 Sesquicentennial and the 1976 Bicentennial.
