On what date will America250's 250th-anniversary milestone fall?

America250's 250th-anniversary milestone falls on July 4, 2026.

That date is 250 years after the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It is also the United States Independence Day, a national holiday observed annually with ceremonies, parades, speeches, and fireworks.

America250 is the public commemoration associated with the United States semiquincentennial. Planning began years before the anniversary, because the celebration involves federal agencies, states, territories, museums, historic sites, schools, and community organizations.

The date can cause confusion because several important events in the American Revolution occurred in 1776. The Lee Resolution declaring independence was approved on July 2, while Congress adopted the Declaration on July 4. America250 uses July 4, 2026, as the central anniversary date because it marks the adoption of the Declaration.
