America250, the United States' 250th anniversary, will be celebrated on July 4, 2026.
The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Because the Declaration became associated with Independence Day, July 4 is the central date for the semiquincentennial observance.
America250 is the public name connected with the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, a bipartisan congressional organization created in 2016. The anniversary is also described with less familiar terms, including sestercentennial and quarter millennium.
The 2026 celebration follows the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976, which marked 200 years of independence. It is distinct from the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War, since the war began in 1775 and ended in 1783.
