On what date were Pokémon Gold and Silver released in Japan?
Answer
November 21, 1999
Answer
November 21, 1999
Pokémon Gold and Silver were released in Japan on November 21, 1999.
The games were the first installments in Pokémon’s second generation and were developed by Game Freak for the Game Boy Color. They followed Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, introducing the Johto region and 100 new Pokémon species.
Gold and Silver were designed to expand the original formula rather than simply repeat it. Their features included a real-time internal clock, Pokémon breeding, held items, the Pokégear, and backward compatibility with the earlier Game Boy games. The ability to trade between generations helped connect the new adventure with the original Pokédex.
The release date is sometimes mixed up with Pokémon Crystal, the generation’s third version, which arrived in Japan on December 14, 2000. International releases also came later: North America received Gold and Silver in October 2000, while Europe received them in April 2001.
