Answer
31 May 1911
On what date was Titanic launched? Titanic was launched on 31 May 1911 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The launch took place at approximately 12:15 p.m., when the hull slid from its building berth into Belfast Harbour.
Launching did not mean that Titanic was ready to carry passengers. At that stage, the ship was a largely unfinished hull. Workers then spent many months fitting out her engines, interiors, electrical systems, furnishings, lifeboats, and other equipment. Titanic’s completion date was 2 April 1912, almost a year after her launch.
Several dates are frequently confused. Her keel was laid down on 22 March 1909; she was launched on 31 May 1911; her sea trials took place in early April 1912; and her maiden voyage began on 10 April 1912. The launch itself was a major Belfast spectacle, but Titanic was not christened with a traditional ceremonial bottle of champagne.
