The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, a date commemorated during the America250 period.
The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The army existed before the Declaration of Independence was adopted and fought the British in the conflict that followed. Its 250th anniversary therefore arrived in 2025, one year before the United States’ national semiquincentennial.
A major Army 250th Anniversary Parade took place on June 14, 2025, in Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The route ran from the Pentagon toward the National Mall. The event included soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, horses, parachutists, and military bands.
June 14 is also Flag Day in the United States, creating a double historical association for the parade. The Army anniversary is separate from the July 4, 2026, anniversary of independence, even though both events form part of the broader America250 era.
