The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, the date highlighted by its America250 anniversary parade.
The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The Army therefore predates the Declaration of Independence, which Congress adopted and proclaimed in 1776.
June 14 is also observed annually as the United States Army’s birthday. The date is closely associated with Flag Day, which is observed on June 14 because the Continental Congress adopted the first national flag resolution on June 14, 1777.
The 2025 parade marked 250 years since the Army’s founding and formed part of the wider United States Semiquincentennial celebrations. It should not be confused with the national anniversary itself, which falls on July 4, 2026.
