Answer
April 10, 1925
Answer
April 10, 1925
The Great Gatsby was first published on April 10, 1925.
Charles Scribner’s Sons issued F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel in the United States. Fitzgerald had completed the final manuscript in February 1925 after extensive revisions with editor Maxwell Perkins. The book was set during the Jazz Age and followed Nick Carraway’s encounters with the mysterious Jay Gatsby.
The publication date is sometimes confused with April 24, 1925, when Fitzgerald wrote about the novel’s early reception, or with later film and reprint dates. The original release was a commercial disappointment despite generally positive reviews. Its reputation grew substantially after Fitzgerald’s death, eventually making it a central work of American literature.
The first edition also became famous for Francis Cugat’s Art Deco dust jacket, known as “Celestial Eyes.” Fitzgerald reportedly incorporated imagery from the cover into parts of the novel.
