On what date was the first SAT administered?

The story behind the answer

The first SAT was administered on June 23, 1926.

The examination was created for the College Board as a standardized supplement to essay-based college-admissions tests. A committee led by Princeton psychologist Carl Brigham developed it, and about 8,000 students took the first administration. The test included areas such as definitions, arithmetic, classification, analogies, number series, logical inference, and paragraph reading.

The SAT was originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Its name, sections, timing, and scoring changed repeatedly over the following decades. In 1997, the College Board announced that SAT was a trademark and did not officially stand for any words.

The first SAT should not be confused with later SAT Subject Tests, the PSAT, or the modern digital SAT. Those are separate stages or versions in the history of the broader testing program.
