On what date was The Builders first broadcast?

The story behind the answer

The Builders was first broadcast on 26 September 1975. It was the second episode of the first series of Fawlty Towers and premiered on BBC Two one week after A Touch of Class.

The episode centres on renovation work in the hotel lobby while Basil and Sybil are away. A misunderstanding between the Fawltys and the builders leads to disastrous alterations, leaving Basil to try to repair the damage before Sybil discovers what has happened.

The date is sometimes confused with the surrounding first-series air dates. A Touch of Class premiered on 19 September 1975, The Wedding Party followed on 3 October, and The Hotel Inspectors aired on 10 October. The Builders therefore sits exactly between the first and third episodes in the original Friday-night transmission schedule.

Like the other early episodes, it was written by John Cleese and Connie Booth. When the series originally aired, episodes did not display their now-familiar titles on screen; those titles became standard through later releases and episode guides.
