On what date was Metallica’s 2021 remastered edition of Metallica released?

Metallica’s 2021 remastered edition of Metallica was released on September 10, 2021.

The reissue marked the album’s 30th anniversary and presented the original record in remastered form alongside a large collection of archival material. The expanded box set included live performances, demos, interviews, DVDs, and other recordings connected with the album’s creation and promotion.

Bob Ludwig handled the remastering at Gateway Mastering, while Greg Fidelman served as executive producer for the project. The reissue was designed to document the album’s wider story rather than simply replace the original 1991 release.

The date is sometimes confused with the album’s original release date, August 12, 1991, or with the June 2021 announcement of the anniversary project. Those dates refer to different events. September 10, 2021 is the release date of the remastered anniversary edition, issued three decades after the original album.
