On what date was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone released in the United Kingdom?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released in the United Kingdom on 16 November 2001.

The film was the first screen adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels. Warner Bros. launched it in the UK and the United States in November 2001, beginning one of the most successful film franchises in cinema history.

The film’s title varies by market. In the United States and some other countries, it was released as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, while the UK title retained Rowling’s original wording. The story and cast are otherwise the same.

The release date is sometimes confused with the film’s US opening date, 16 November 2001, which was also the date used for its North American theatrical release. Both major markets received the film on the same day.
