On what date does America's 250th anniversary, America250, officially fall?

America's 250th anniversary, known as America250, officially falls on July 4, 2026.

The date follows the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The United States observes that date as Independence Day, so the 250th anniversary arrives 250 years after the 1776 milestone.

The date can be confused with July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress passed the Lee Resolution declaring the colonies independent in principle. July 4 is associated with Congress approving the Declaration’s final wording and with the anniversary traditionally celebrated nationwide.

America250 programming includes activities before and after the central date. The semiquincentennial therefore refers both to the specific anniversary day and to a broader period of commemorations connected with the founding era.
