Answer
19 February 1979
The second series of Fawlty Towers premiered on 19 February 1979.
Its opening episode was “Communication Problems”, in which Basil struggles with Mrs Richards, a demanding and hard-of-hearing guest. The episode also introduces Terry Hughes, played by Brian Hall, as the hotel’s new regular chef.
The second series arrived about three and a half years after the first series, which began broadcasting in September 1975. Despite the long gap, the returning core cast included John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Connie Booth and Andrew Sachs.
The dates in the wrong options belong to later episodes or other points in the series. “Waldorf Salad” aired on 5 March 1979, while “The Anniversary” was shown on 26 March. The final episode, “Basil the Rat”, was delayed until 25 October 1979 because of BBC industrial action.
