On what date did Reddit go public in 2024?

The story behind the answer

Reddit went public on March 21, 2024.

That was the first day Reddit’s shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RDDT. The company priced its initial public offering at $34 per share on March 20, giving Reddit an implied valuation of about $6.4 billion before public trading began. Its shares opened at $47 and closed the first day at $50.44.

Reddit’s path to the stock market took years. The company filed confidentially for an IPO in 2021, later submitted a public registration statement in February 2024, and marketed the offering to institutional investors as well as selected Reddit users and moderators. That user participation was unusual and attracted significant attention because the company was offering shares to part of the community that created much of its content.

A common mix-up is treating March 20 as the public debut date. March 20 was the pricing and effectiveness date for the offering; March 21 was when the stock actually began trading on the NYSE. Therefore, March 21, 2024 is the fair canonical answer.
