Answer
August 12, 2014
Google Classroom became publicly available on August 12, 2014.
Google announced Classroom in May 2014 as a platform for schools using Google’s education services. Its goal was to simplify the creation, distribution, and grading of assignments while giving teachers and students a central place to communicate and share files.
The public release followed the announcement by several months. Classroom connected with tools such as Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Gmail. Each class could also create an associated Drive folder for submitted work.
Google Classroom is sometimes confused with Google Meet or Google Workspace for Education. Meet focuses on video communication, while Classroom organizes coursework, assignments, submissions, and feedback. The service later expanded beyond its original education-account restrictions, allowing broader participation by personal Google users.
