On what date did Bob Marley die?

The story behind the answer

Bob Marley died on 11 May 1981.

He died in Miami, Florida, at age 36, after melanoma had spread through his body. The cancer was first identified in 1977 in a toe, but Marley continued recording and performing for several years. His final studio album released during his lifetime was Uprising, issued in 1980.

Marley’s death occurred while he was traveling back to Jamaica from Europe. He was buried near his birthplace of Nine Mile, alongside his guitar. Because his music continued to gain international popularity after 1981, many listeners encounter his work without realizing how young he was when he died.
