On "Gilmore Girls", which Chilton teacher does Lorelai get engaged to?

On “Gilmore Girls,” Lorelai gets engaged to Chilton teacher Max Medina.

Max Medina is Rory’s English teacher at Chilton, the demanding private school Rory attends before Yale. He begins dating Lorelai after they meet through Rory’s school, creating an awkward situation because Lorelai is both Max’s romantic partner and the parent of one of his students. Their relationship develops despite Rory’s initial discomfort.

Max proposes to Lorelai near the end of Season 1, but she does not immediately accept. In Season 2, she eventually agrees, and the couple plans a large wedding. Lorelai later realizes that she does not truly want to marry Max and calls off the engagement shortly before the ceremony. Their breakup also affects Rory, who had gradually become more accepting of Max.

Max is played by Scott Cohen and remains one of Lorelai’s significant early relationships. He should not be confused with Christopher Hayden, Rory’s father, or Jason Stiles, Lorelai’s later business associate and romantic partner. Alex Lesman also dates Lorelai, but he is not her Chilton teacher or fiancé.
