On "Gilmore Girls," Lorelai and Sookie open the Dragonfly Inn together. The business is the payoff to years of working side by side at the Independence Inn, where Lorelai manages the property and Sookie serves as its exceptionally talented, frequently chaotic chef.
The Dragonfly begins as an old, run-down inn in Stars Hollow owned by Fran Weston. After Fran dies, Lorelai and Sookie purchase the property and renovate it. The name remains Dragonfly Inn, honoring the building's earlier identity while marking the partners' new start. Lorelai handles management and guest relations, while Sookie leads the kitchen and develops the inn's food program.
A common mix-up is confusing the Dragonfly with the Independence Inn. The Independence is where Lorelai and Sookie work before launching their own venture; the Dragonfly is their later business. Sookie's husband Jackson also becomes closely connected to the inn as a produce supplier. In the 2016 revival, Sookie is temporarily away pursuing other culinary work, but the Dragonfly remains Lorelai's signature enterprise.
