On "Gilmore Girls", at the start of the series Lorelai manages which inn in Stars Hollow?

The story behind the answer

At the start of "Gilmore Girls," Lorelai manages the Independence Inn in Stars Hollow. The inn is the professional home where she has built her career in hospitality and where she works closely with her best friend, chef Sookie St. James.

The Independence Inn is owned by Mia, a warm and important figure in Lorelai's life. Lorelai first arrived there as a teenager with infant Rory after leaving her parents' Hartford home, and Mia gave them a place to stay and eventually a path into the hotel business. Lorelai rises from working at the inn to becoming its manager, demonstrating the independence and practical expertise that define her character.

The Independence Inn is also the source of a frequent quiz mix-up. Lorelai does not manage the Dragonfly Inn at the beginning of the series; that is the later property she and Sookie buy and renovate after leaving the Independence. The Independence eventually suffers a devastating fire, helping push Lorelai and Sookie toward opening their own inn. The two properties therefore represent different stages of Lorelai's career.
