Offset go-kart chassis are designed mainly for speedway racing. Their defining feature is a driver position shifted toward the left side, a layout developed for circuits made up primarily of left-hand turns.

Speedway karting takes place on oval or tri-oval tracks, often on dirt or asphalt. Moving the driver left places more mass over the inside of the kart during repeated left turns. That weight distribution can help the kart rotate and maintain traction through the corner, where handling priorities differ from those of a sprint circuit with many alternating turns.

A straight chassis keeps the driver centered and is the standard choice for sprint racing. Offset chassis are not simply a faster version of a straight chassis, and they are not intended primarily for rallycross, hill climbs, or drag racing. Speedway karts also use other setup choices—such as tire compounds, axle stiffness, and ride-height adjustments—to adapt to the track surface. In oval racing, the chassis layout works together with those tuning decisions to favor predictable cornering in one direction.
