Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch home was near Abiquiú, New Mexico.
O'Keeffe first encountered the dramatic landscape around Ghost Ranch during her New Mexico travels. She later acquired a house there and used the surrounding cliffs, hills, and desert forms as subjects for paintings. The area became closely identified with her artistic vision.
She also owned and lived at a historic adobe house in the village of Abiquiú. That home, known as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio, is associated with her later life and working methods. Ghost Ranch and Abiquiú are nearby but distinct places, which is why they are sometimes mixed up in short biographies.
Santa Fe was another important New Mexico location, especially during O'Keeffe’s final years and as the site of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. However, the village connected to the Ghost Ranch house is Abiquiú. The surrounding landscape supplied recurring motifs rather than a single fixed scene.
