Georgia O'Keeffe kept a home near Abiquiú, New Mexico.
She acquired and restored a historic adobe house in Abiquiú, which became one of her principal homes. The surrounding landscape, including the road and cliffs near the village, provided recurring subjects for her paintings.
O'Keeffe also spent substantial time at Ghost Ranch, roughly north of Abiquiú. Her association with both places often leads to confusion, but they are distinct locations in northern New Mexico. Abiquiú was the site of her home, while Ghost Ranch was another important residence and source of imagery.
The Abiquiú house is now preserved as a historic property associated with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Its courtyard, walls, and famous door have become closely identified with the artist's New Mexico period.
