Name Odin's two brothers.

The story behind the answer

Odin's two brothers were Vili and Vé.

In Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, Odin, Vili, and Vé are the sons of Borr and the giantess Bestla. Together, the three brothers kill the primordial giant Ymir and use his body to shape the world. This makes Vili and Vé central participants in the Norse creation narrative, even though they appear far less often than Odin.

The brothers also help create the first humans. In the Prose Edda, the trio finds two pieces of wood on a seashore and forms Ask and Embla. Odin gives them breath and life, Vili gives understanding and movement, and Vé gives appearance, speech, hearing, and sight.

The names can be confusing because the Poetic Edda uses Hœnir and Lóðurr alongside Odin in the creation of humanity. Many scholars connect those figures with Vili and Vé, but the direct answer in the standard Prose Edda genealogy is Vili and Vé. Vé is sometimes written Ve when diacritics are omitted.
