Mestalla Stadium is located in which Spanish city?

The story behind the answer

Mestalla Stadium is located in Valencia, Spain.

Opened on 20 May 1923, Mestalla has been the home ground of Valencia CF for more than a century. It stands on Avenida de Suecia, close to the centre of Valencia, and is one of Spain’s best-known football venues. The stadium’s name comes from the historic Mestalla irrigation canal.

Mestalla has also hosted Spain internationals, matches during the 1982 FIFA World Cup, and Spain’s football matches at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Valencia’s team won Olympic gold that year. The ground is famous for its steep stands, which bring spectators unusually close to the pitch.

A common mix-up is confusing the stadium with the planned Nou Mestalla, a replacement venue whose construction has faced long delays. Nou Mestalla is also associated with Valencia, but it is not the historic stadium named in this question.
