Marcelo Arévalo became the first player from El Salvador to win a Wimbledon title.
He made history at the 2026 Championships by partnering Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko to win the mixed-doubles final. The second seeds defeated Australia’s Storm Hunter and Marc Polmans 4–6, 7–5, 6–2, recovering from a set and a break down on Centre Court.
The Wimbledon triumph was Arévalo’s third Grand Slam doubles title. His previous major victories came in the men’s doubles at Roland-Garros in 2022 and 2024. He later reached the 2026 Wimbledon men’s-doubles final with Croatia’s Mate Pavić, but lost to Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten.
A common mix-up is confusing Arévalo’s Wimbledon achievement with his earlier Roland-Garros milestone: his 2022 French Open victory made him the first player from Central America to win a men’s doubles Grand Slam title.
