Each 2026 Wimbledon main singles draw contained 128 players. That means the gentlemen’s singles draw had 128 players and the ladies’ singles draw had 128 players.
A 128-player draw creates seven rounds of singles competition: first round, second round, third round, fourth round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. Because 128 is a power of two, each round can reduce the field neatly by half, leaving one champion at the end. A player therefore needs to win seven matches to take the title, assuming a full route through the draw.
The main draw is not the same as the qualifying competition. Players can reach the Championships through direct ranking entry, qualifying, wild cards or special exemptions, but all entrants ultimately occupy places in the 128-player main field. The draw also includes seeded and unseeded players arranged into separate sections of the bracket.
The number 128 is sometimes confused with the total number of competitors across both singles events. Counting the men’s and women’s draws together gives 256 main-draw places, but each individual singles draw contains 128 players.
