Maat Mons is located in which Venusian region?

The story behind the answer

Maat Mons is located in the Venusian region called Atla Regio.

Atla Regio is a major volcanic and tectonic province near Venus’s equator. Maat Mons is a huge shield volcano within this region, which also contains other volcanic centers such as Ozza Mons and Ongwuti Mons. Geological evidence suggests that Atla Regio may be associated with a mantle plume and extensive crustal rifting.

Maat Mons rises about 8 kilometers above Venus’s mean planetary radius and nearly 5 kilometers above the surrounding plains. Its broad shield shape reflects the accumulation of fluid volcanic lava rather than the steep profile typical of many terrestrial stratovolcanoes. The volcano has a summit caldera about 28 by 31 kilometers across.

The name Maat Mons honors Ma’at, the ancient Egyptian goddess associated with truth and justice. Do not confuse Atla Regio with Ishtar Terra or Lakshmi Planum, which are prominent features in Venus’s northern hemisphere. Recent studies of Magellan radar images have also found evidence consistent with comparatively recent volcanic activity at Maat Mons.
