Venus is the second planet from which star?

The story behind the answer

Venus is the second planet from the Sun.

It follows Mercury, the innermost planet, and orbits at an average distance of about 0.72 astronomical units—roughly 108 million kilometres—from the Sun. Venus completes one orbit in about 224.7 Earth days.

The answer is sometimes confused with Venus’s appearance in the sky. Because it is usually the brightest planet seen from Earth, Venus is called the “morning star” or “evening star,” but it is not a star and does not orbit one of the nearby stars listed in the options.

Venus is similar to Earth in size and mass, yet its thick carbon-dioxide atmosphere produces a runaway greenhouse effect. Its surface is hot enough to melt lead, making it the hottest planet in the Solar System.
